Rioja: The Past is Now, the Future is Here; Tempranillo, Granacha and Graciano

$30.00 $25.00

A wine seminar in Delafield on Thursday, February 13, from 6 to 7:30 pm.

“With a cellar full of Rioja, one is never at a loss for something to drink” – Sarah Evans, MW

I believe Sarah Evans statement to be completely, and utterly true.  Moreover, I want you to believe her too.  But belief in wine comes only through tasting.  So taste we must, and taste we shall.

Rioja wines are split into two dramatically different styles.  The “traditional” style, wherein grapes are picked rather early, and the resulting wine is often held for many years in old casks.  The opposite, “alta expression” style, is riper, fuller, and often employs lots of new oak.

Both styles, to my taste, are extremely delicious.  Both styles – and this may be shocking to some – are extremely age worthy.  But all are not created equal, and in a world of competing resources, we must choose.  Come and tastes what I believe to be some of the greatest wines created in Rioja.
